A day after light rain in the plains and lower reaches coupled with snowfall in the higher reaches, Uttarakhand witnessed light rain and snowfall in some parts on Tuesday with temperatures rising marginally in some locations including Dehradun. However, the mercury level is forecast to drop again by a few notches on Wednesday.
The State Meteorological Centre has forecast that dry weather is likely to prevail in all districts today. It has also issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of ground frost likely to occur in the mountainous districts. The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a partly cloudy sky and mist in the morning. Thundercloud development/very light rain is likely to occur in some areas while the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 20 degrees Celsius and five degrees Celsius respectively today.
Meanwhile, the Char Dham shrines are covered in a blanket of white following snowfall on Monday and Tuesday. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Tuesday were 18.6 degrees Celsius and 8.6 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 22 degrees Celsius and 10.4 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 8.4 degrees Celsius and 1.6 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 11.2 degrees Celsius and 1.5 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. While high altitude regions like Gangotri and Yamunotri in Uttarkashi district and some other higher reaches witnessed snowfall on Tuesday, there was 7.5 millimetres rain each in Auli and Jankichatti, 6.5 millimetres in Pandukeshwar and 1.5 millimetres in Pratapnagar with trace rainfall in Dehradun and Mukteshwar.
