Uttarakhand reaches 11th position in the 38th National Games

 After winning 49 medals in the 38th National Games, Uttarakhand has secured the 11th position in the event so far as per details provided by officials till Saturday. According to officials, the State’s performance in the National Games has improved compared to past years. Uttarakhand has claimed 49 medals, including eight gold, leading to its current ranking.

In the past, Uttarakhand won 24 medals in the 37th National Games held in Goa, which included three gold, six silver, and 14 bronze medals, placing the State in 25th position on the points table. Uttarakhand won 18 medals in the 36th National Games held in Gujarat in 2022, 19 medals in the 35th National Games in Kerala in 2014, 13 medals in the 34th National Games held in Ranchi in 2011 and 13 medals in the 33rd National Games held in Guwahati in 2007. Further, the state won 10 medals in the 32nd National Games held in Hyderabad in 2002, the officials added.

Commenting on the State’s better performance in the National Games, Sports minister Rekha Arya stated that winning three gold medals in a single day recently represents a significant leap in the medal tally. She congratulated all the medal-winning athletes, expressing pride in their achievements and highlighting that the players are helping to realise the vision of making the State a sports hub.

Arya expressed hope that the athletes will secure many more medals in the upcoming athletics and other competitions, leading to an even better position in the medal tally. She emphasised that these National Games have established Uttarakhand as a formidable force in boxing, wushu and taekwondo.
