Uttarkashi native Indramani Nautiyal has been stuck in Saudi Arabia for eight years now and attempts made by his family requesting the Government of India to get him back have failed so far. They are now hoping that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will facilitate his return. Nautiyal’s home in Gaursada village in the district has been in gloom for years now with his family members having written to various government officials in vain. He had gone abroad to earn a livelihood years ago but for eight years now his daughter Deepika and her younger sibling are managing their home along with Nautiyal’s aged mother. Deepika says that whenever she gets to talk with her father on the phone, he says that he wants to return home but the company he is in is not letting him go. She said that she has sought help from the State’s chief minister, the Ministry of External Affairs and even the Prime Minister’s office but has not received any concrete assistance yet. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi slated to visit Uttarkashi on February 27, she has written a letter to him about the situation and sought his help.
Nautiyal had gone to Saudi Arabia in 2018 and his family members state that he got a job driving a truck for a company in Riyadh. They further said that in the same year he was involved in an accident. The truck he was driving was involved in an accident with a car in which three persons reportedly died. He was sentenced by the court there as the truck was not insured. He was released after serving a 10-month sentence. The family members said that he has been working in the company which is not allowing him to return to India. They further claim that the company has taken his passport in its possession due to which he is unable to return to India.
