The Doon Library and Research Centre (DLRC), in collaboration with the Society of Pollution and Environmental Conservation Scientists (SPECS), will host a workshop for children on March 1, focusing on the creation of natural colours for Holi within the centre premises. Informing about this, in-charge of the children’s section at the DLRC, said that there is a general awareness of the adverse effects that chemically produced colours can have, including skin allergies and other complications during the Holi festivities. In response to this concern, the administration of the DLRC, along with SPECS, has decided to organise a workshop on March 1 to educate children about the differences between organic and chemical colours. The workshop is scheduled to take place from 3 PM to 5 PM in the centre.
During the opening segment of the workshop, the speaker as well as the president of SPECS, Brij Mohan Sharma will engage with the children to discuss the effects of chemical colours. Following this, the workshop will provide guidance on how to create organic colours using flowers, vegetables, fruits and other natural materials. The primary goal of this workshop is to educate children on how to safely celebrate Holi at home. She said that there is no registration required and any child aged five to 17 is encouraged to participate. Additionally, special invitations have been extended to certain non-governmental organisations and government schools to encourage their students to join this initiative. It is anticipated that between 100 to 150 children will attend; however, the venue has a maximum capacity of 96. To address this limitation, the organisers have decided to host another workshop on March 8 so that the rest of the children can access the workshop at that time, she said.
