Sundaram meets Ganga Sabha, traders on Haridwar Corridor; traders oppose plan

PNS/ HARIDWAR
While meeting the members of the Ganga Sabha and traders in Haridwar, the senior IAS officer Meenakshi Sundaram said that under the Haridwar Corridor plan, Janhavi market at Har Ki Paudi which is a property of the Haridwar Municipal Corporation would be removed and the Haridwar bus station would be shifted from its present location to Chandi Ghat area. Besides, a new island will be built up between the Malviya Ghat and VIP Ghat. While the Ganga Sabha members nodded to the outlines of the upcoming corridor the traders present vented their opposition.
According to Sundaram, the bus station shifting will ease the traffic congestion in the area. A shopping complex will come up in the place from where the bus station will be shifted and the shop owners or tenants to be displaced from Har Ki Paudi will be enabled to carry on their trade from the new complex.
The traders’ delegation said that under no circumstances would they agree to the shifting of the bus station and the Janhavi market. They said that the bus station might be shifted to Rishikul.
