Joshi orders district police in-charges to hold workshops on animal welfare laws

Pioneer News Service | Dehradun

The inspector general (Training) Arun Mohan Joshi has instructed all district police in-charges to conduct workshops on animal welfare laws to ensure more effective handling of related cases. In a letter addressed to senior superintendent of police of all districts, Joshi said that the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) has recommended such training sessions for State police. These workshops also align with directions issued by the Supreme Court, reinforcing the need for law enforcement officials to be well-versed in animal welfare regulations.

To facilitate this initiative, Joshi has directed SSPs to coordinate with a member of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Rubina Nitin Iyer. He also ordered them to take necessary actions in this regard and directed them to submit a report on the conducted activities to the headquarters. According to Josh, this move will strengthen legal awareness among police personnel and enhance their ability to handle cases of animal cruelty efficiently.
