In a major initiative, the State government has roped in corporate groups to adopt 550 government schools in Uttarakhand.
The Education department has organised a programme on July 30 in which it has invited more than 550 industrialists. In the programme, these industrial houses will formally sign memoranda of understanding (MoU) with the Education department for adopting government schools in presence of governor lieutenant general ( retd) Gurmit Singh and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the State government has taken new initiative with the involvement of corporate houses for modernising education and creating a better educational environment in the State. He said that the government has selected most of the schools located in the mountainous areas for adoption so that infrastructure facilities, model class room, computer laboratory, science lab, library, toilets, playground and boundary can be built there.
He claimed that the State government has contacted about 550 industrial houses and has reached an understanding with them. The minister said that the industrial houses will adopt the schools in a programme organised on July 30 at Raj Bhawan. He said that apart from adding new facilities, the objective of the plan is to give a new recognition to the government schools with the help of corporate social responsibility fund.
The minister further informed that under the initiative every industrial house will adopt one primary and one secondary school each. He added that there are about 559 such schools in the State where vocational courses are being offered to the students. Rawat said that these schools can be operated in a better manner after linking them with the industrial houses.
