With the implementation of Goods and Service Tax (GST) 2.0 on September 22, electronic gadgets and automobiles have seen an increase in customer footfall at showrooms. A two-tier GST tax structure, comprising rates of five per cent and 18 per cent, has been approved and is designed to benefit the general public. The implementation of this new structure has boosted the sales of these products in Dehradun.
An owner of an electronics appliances shop Vishal Jadeja commented, “It’s true that with the implementation of the GST 2.0, sales of electronic appliances, especially LED TVs, have increased among the residents. Customers are saving between Rs 2,000 to 3,000 on purchases after these GST reforms. With the new GST structure in place, shopkeepers like us don’t need to offer additional discounts to attract customers, as they are already drawn to the new prices.”
Further, a salesperson at an automobile shop Surendra Joshi expressed excitement about the increased sales of four-wheelers. “Compared to normal days, customer footfall has risen significantly after the new GST reforms,” he said. In addition, to attract more customers during the festive season, we have also made special offers and discounts available.
Another general manager at an automobile showroom Akash Chaudhary, stated, “We have indeed seen an increase in sales at our showroom due to the new GST reforms. However, as a four-wheeler dealer, we have concerns. Customers are purchasing vehicles under the new GST rates, which were purchased by us under the old GST rates. This situation poses a loss for dealers. I urge the authorities to look into this matter.”
Many other electronic appliance and automobile shop owners have also expressed their views on the increased customer footfall following the implementation of the new GST reforms.
