The Municipal Corporation of Haridwar (MCH) has stepped up efforts to ensure the desired level of sanitation in the city during the Deepawali celebrations. Haridwar municipal commissioner Nandan Kumar has cancelled the leaves of all field workers and officers of the corporation’s Health section. All the workers will be on duty on the occasion of the festival while the senior officials will monitor the sanitation arrangements.

Meanwhile, Kumar also issued a show-cause notice to the sanitation inspector and supervisor concerned after finding garbage during an inspection of the Bhupatwala area. He also directed officials to impose a penalty on the agency involved in door to door collection of garbage, adding that strict action should be taken if the agency is found to be negligent in its work again.

While inspecting the Ranipur Mod area, the commissioner also interacted with the councillor Rajesh Sharma and local traders. He also checked the twin-dustbin arrangement made in the area while also speaking on issues related to the sanitation system and suggested actions for improvement. Kumar said that top priority is being accorded to the sanitation level of the city considering Deepawali and other festivals.

All the sanitation inspectors have been directed to provide compostable garbage bags to traders through the supervisors to put a check on the problem of plastic waste.
