Four workers dead, one injured in head-on collision between pickup and tractor trolley

Four labourers died and one was seriously injured when the tractor trolley they were travelling in collided with a pickup transporting poultry on Saturday morning near the Nanaksagar barrage in Udham Singh Nagar district. The head-on collision caused the trolley to overturn on the roadside causing the death of four labourers from neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.

According to sources, a pickup carrying poultry departed from Rudrapur for Khatima in the morning. The pickup and a tractor trolley collided head-on on the national highway near Nanaksagar barrage. The collision caused major damage to the tractor and caused the trolley to overturn.

Receiving information about the accident, the Nanaksagar police personnel transported the injured to a hospital in Khatima with the help of 108 ambulance service. The doctors declared Akhilesh Singh and Jaiveer, both from Uttar Pradesh, dead at the hospital. Shishpal Singh and Gurmukh- both from UP- died during treatment while one injured man Jaiveer is undergoing treatment.

The workers had reportedly come from Uttar Pradesh to Uttarakhand to work on a contract for laying lines for the Electricity department. They were on their way to the work site when the accident occurred. The police have taken possession of the tractor and pickup, and started investigation in the case. Sources stated that initial inquiry points towards speeding and careless driving as being the cause of the mishap.
