Two accused involved in a firing incident outside Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital were injured during a police encounter late on Wednesday. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the police arrested three suspects after receiving information from the control room about three individuals travelling on a white scooter with its number plate covered in mud. Police teams began checking vehicles at various points and flagged down the suspicious scooter near Chidderwala but the riders turned back at high speed and attempted to flee using the wrong lane. Police chased them toward a forest trail near Kali Mandir, where the scooter lost balance. When confronted, the accused fired at the police team with the intention to escape. The police returned fire in self-defence, injuring two of them in the legs. The police recovered two country-made pistols, four live cartridges, two empty cartridges and a knife from the spot. The third rider escaped into the dark but was later arrested during a combing operation in the Doiwala area in the wee hours of Thursday, Singh said. Police identified the injured as Sohail Khan (25) and Sanu (23), both residents of Dehradun. The third accused Javed (30) is a resident of Saharanpur. The SSP said that during questioning, the accused revealed that they shot a youth named Dishant near GDMC Hospital days earlier following an alleged financial dispute involving their associates. Police had already arrested two men, Rohit Arya and Vishal Tomar, in connection with the earlier incident. Singh said that the police transported the injured accused to a nearby hospital for treatment. A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act for the attack on the police and the possession of illegal weapons. So far, five people have been arrested in connection with the firing outside the hospital, he added. The Garhwal range  inspector general of police Rajeev Swaroop also announced a reward of Rs10,000 for the police team for tracking down the accused.
