Religious organisations to serve memorandum to CM on Uttarkashi’s Dharam Nagari status

Enthused over the civic board having unanimously recommended Uttarkashi be given the status of Dharm Nagari, members of over 10 religious, social and cultural organisations- active in Uttarkashi- have decided to submit a joint memorandum to the chief minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami during his visit to the district. The memorandum would clearly demand that Uttarkashi be officially declared a religious city, similar to Haridwar and Rishikesh, they said.
They argue that Uttarkashi is not just a town but an ancient spiritual centre located on the sacred land whence the holy rivers- Ganga and Yamuna-originate. Numerous historical temples, ashrams, and pilgrimage sites, including the revered Vishwanath Temple, are located here. Their religious status warrants that the entire town be given the status as a religious city, they asserted.
Notably, Uttarkashi Municipal Council had passed a resolution in its board meeting to declare the town- known as Vishwanath Nagari -a religious town and sent it to the State government for prompt approval.
