PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the State government is committed to provide timely justice to the general public by making the judicial system simpler, accessible and effective. He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Revenue Lok Adalat in the State in a virtual mode on Saturday.
The CM said that the Revenue Lok Adalat is being organized to provide quick and meaningful resolution to revenue disputes pending for years. The CM said that revenue disputes are not merely a paperwork process but they involve the land of farmers, their livelihoods and self-respect.
He said that the State’s Revenue Council, the divisional commissioner’s court at the division level, the collector’s court at the district level, and the SDM, Tehsildar and Naib Tehsildar courts at the tehsil level are responsible for resolving revenue disputes. “At present more than 400 revenue courts operate in the State, with over 50,000 pending cases. To address these issues, the state government has launched the innovative initiative of the Revenue Lok Adalat, with the motto of simplification, resolution, settlement and satisfaction,’’ he said.
The CM said that Revenue Lok Adalats are being organized simultaneously at 210 places in all 13 districts of the State, in which about 6,933 cases will be resolved expeditiously. He informed that under this initiative, apart from land disputes, cases related to Excise, Food, Stamp, SARFAESI Act, Goonda Act, CrPC, Electricity Act, Senior Citizens Act and Rent Control Act will also be resolved in a timely and transparent manner.
He said that the State government is continuously working to simplify and make administrative processes transparent. Dhami informed that by making the functioning of revenue courts online, the ‘Revenue Court Case Management System’ portal has been developed, through which citizens can register their cases from home. The CM directed officials to ensure that in cases of undisputed inheritance, the name transfer is completed within the stipulated time-frame after the death of the landowner. He suggested that the process of name transfer in the names of heirs be completed by the deceased’s thirteenth day/Pipalpani and new land records be made available to the family. The CM averred that transparency and impartiality are key features of the Lok Adalat, where justice is delivered with sensitivity after hearing all parties.
Chief secretary Anand Bardhan said that revenue disputes will be resolved expeditiously. He directed all the DMs to settle all the revenue disputes on priority basis.
Revenue secretary Ranjana Rajguru was also present in the meeting.
