The Dehradun district magistrate, Ashish Chauhan on Monday urged residents to register complaints related to damaged roads, ongoing road excavations, potholes, land fraud and other civic issues on the chief minister’s helpline portal. He also invited citizens to share suggestions for improving traffic management in the city. “The online system will help authorities monitor, track and ensure the timely resolution of complaints,” Chauhan said.

Further, the district administration has decided to organise a public grievance hearing called “Samadhan Diwas” every Monday. The initiative aims to ensure the quick and effective resolution of public complaints.

The first Samadhan Diwas was held on Monday at the Rishiparna Auditorium in Dehradun. During the programme, a total of 132 people submitted their complaints before the DM. Most of the complaints were related to land disputes. People also raised issues related to financial assistance, loan waivers, roads, pedestrian bridges and public pathways.

Seeing the large number of land- related complaints, the DM directed officials to create a high level special cell at the district level. “This cell will handle matters related to land demarcation, encroachment, possession disputes, tenant issues and other revenue related cases on a fast track basis,” Chauhan said.

He also reviewed health- related issues. He directed the chief medical officer to prepare a list of pregnant women living in remote villages that lack proper road connectivity. Special attention will be given to high risk pregnancies, and such women will be shifted to hospitals before delivery. “Hospitals should introduce a token system to reduce long waiting times for patients,” he said.

During the programme, an 89-year-old ex-serviceman complained that his tenant was refusing to vacate his house and was threatening him. The DM immediately directed the police officer concerned to take action. Another elderly resident complained about illegal occupation of his property, and the officials were ordered to investigate the matter.

The administration also took note of complaints regarding crop damage caused by hailstorms and directed the concerned department to ensure compensation under government schemes. “All departments must ensure timely action on every grievance,” the DM affirmed.
