MCD plans dedicated momos market to organise street vendors

ANJALI YADAV / Dehradun
The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is planning to establish a dedicated momos market in the city and has initiated the process of identifying suitable land for the project.
According to officials, the primary objective of the initiative is to organise street food vendors and reduce the number of carts operating along busy roads. The move is expected to help ease traffic congestion and improve traffic management in several parts of the city.
The proposed market will provide fast-food vendors with a designated space to conduct their business in a more organised manner. Officials said the facility would offer vendors a permanent location, benefiting both traders and customers.
The civic body is likely to select a site in an area with high public footfall, particularly locations popular among youngsters and food enthusiasts. The proposed market is expected to emerge as a dedicated food hub while helping streamline roadside vending activities across the city.
MCD officials stated that the project is currently in the planning stage and further details will be finalised after the identification of suitable land.
