Trees to be felled for Pantnagar airport’s security

While attending a meeting chaired by the Udham Singh Nagar district magistrate Nitin Singh Bhadauria on Pantnagar airport, the director of the airport, Pawan Kumar informed that some big trees must be felled and bushes around the airport cleaned up to strengthen security and enhance passenger and operational activities.  Following this, the DM directed the airport officials and Forest department officials to form a team and mark the trees and ensure cutting and trimming of trees and bushes.

This aside, the airport director requested for deployment of adequate security personnel and provision of proper vehicles for patrolling the airspace. In response, the DM directed the police officials present to send a demand letter to the police headquarters for deployment of security personnel and patrolling vehicles for security purposes at the airport.

The airport director also mentioned that wild animals frequent the airport premises, responding to which the DM directed the forest and airport officials to conduct regular ‘haka’ campaigns to drive away wild animals.

Kumar further informed the DM that unauthorised meat shops operate in the colonies surrounding the airport, attracting vultures and crows, increasing the risk of accidents.

The DM directed police and administrative officials to conduct regular checks in the colonies surrounding the airport and ensure the removal of these meat shops.

Bhadauria also stressed on identifying encroachments falling within the range of the Pantnagar Airport expansion and ordered their demolition after issuing notices.
