Ahead of the 2027 Uttarakhand Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the State government of failing to ensure financial support, safety and justice for women. Addressing the media here on Friday, the party’s State working president Uma Sisodia raised several issues concerning women and outlined the party’s key demands.
Sisodia said that the BJP government had failed to fulfill its promise of providing financial assistance to women. Referring to AAP’s Punjab government, she said that women there receive monthly financial support and demanded that Uttarakhand also introduce a Rs 1,000 per month women’s ‘honour allowance’. The party also averred that crimes against women are increasing in the State and that women are not receiving adequate protection or timely police response. Referring to the Ankita Bhandari murder case, Sisodia demanded disclosure of the alleged VIP’s identity and speedy trial through a fast-track court.
Among its key demands, AAP sought the introduction of a monthly financial assistance scheme for women, speedy justice in the Ankita Bhandari case and the establishment of women’s safety command centres in every district with a fixed emergency response time.
