Exam date announced: Nursing graduates to meet Health minister

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Following the government’s recent announcement of the nursing recruitment examination dates, the unemployed nursing graduates, under the banner of Nursing Ekta Manch (NEM), have decided to meet the Health minister Subodh Uniyal on July 7 to press their long-standing demands. Notably, their demonstration entered its 214th day on Monday. The demonstrators are calling for a transparent recruitment process that prioritises candidates based on seniority after they complete their qualifying examinations.

The unemployed nursing graduates started their stir at Ekta Vihar on the same demands. With no action being taken, they escalated their protest by climbing a water tank in Parade Ground. Following this, the director general (DG) of Health forwarded their demands to the Health secretary and subsequently the protesters postponed their agitation for a month. However, as no action was taken even after a month, the unemployed nursing graduates resumed their agitation and expanded it to Haldwani.

Amid their protests, the government has recently declared the dates for the nursing recruitment examination as July 25 and July 26, which has caused anger and frustration among the protesters.

Venting concern, the president of NEM, Naval Pundir said that soon after the announcement of the dates, they tried to meet the Health minister. “But we did not succeed. We will again try to meet him and will decide our future course of action on the outcome of the meeting with the minister,” he said.

He also informed that their sit-in would continue in Ekta Vihar in Dehradun and Haldwani.
