Counterfeit currency racket busted, 4 accused from Punjab held

 Kotwali Nagar police busted a counterfeit currency racket during an intensive checking operation and arrested four accused from Punjab. A total of 169 counterfeit notes of the denomination of Rs 500 with a face value of Rs 84,500 were recovered from the accused.
The city police station in-charge, Kundan Singh Rana said that during the operation, conducted under the direction of SSP Navneet Singh, four suspicious individuals had been spotted in the Mela Hospital area. “When the police team attempted to stop them, they turned back and began running. Police chased and apprehended the quartet near Bilkeshwar Tiraha. A search revealed counterfeit currency,” he said.

Sharing further details, he said that during interrogation, the accused had revealed that they had purchased 200 counterfeit notes from a man in Gurdaspur, Punjab, for Rs 20,000. “They had come to Haridwar with the intention of passing these notes off as genuine. Preliminary investigation also revealed that some of the counterfeit notes had been used in the market during purchases. Police have filed a case against the accused under relevant sections and are preparing to present them in court,” he added.

Moreover, a special team has been formed to uncover the entire racket and arrest the main supplier. In view of the seriousness of the matter, central agencies have also started a secret investigation into the network of fake notes.
