The wildlife documentary film ‘The Divine Mother,’ based on the king cobra of Uttarakhand, has been presented with the best documentary award at the Devbhoomi International Film Festival recently held in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. A total of 25 films were selected for screening at this film festival with entries received from across the country. The Divine Mother was initially selected among the 25 shortlisted films and was later declared the best documentary by the jury. The film was produced by Padma Shri recipient and renowned wildlife photographer Anup Shah and a noted wildlife conservationist Parth Sharma. The film was directed by Ajay Suri.
Shot over 18 months in the remote forests of Kumaon and Garhwal regions, this documentary presents the mysterious life of the king cobra, its behaviour, and its vital role in the Himalayan ecosystem.
Those actively associated with the making of this documentary said that the title is inspired by the remarkable maternal instincts of the female king cobra. The king cobra is one of the rarest snake species in the world that builds its own nest and demonstrates extraordinary dedication to protecting its eggs. The film also highlights the importance of nature conservation and biodiversity.
This recognition at the Devbhoomi International Film Festival is a matter of pride for Uttarakhand and Indian wildlife cinema, said the producers. The film was praised by both the judges and audiences for its cinematography, presentation and conservation message, they remarked. They further said that this achievement would play a significant role in raising public awareness about wildlife conservation and bringing Uttarakhand’s rich biodiversity to national and international attention.
