Comprehensive & integrated waste management plan for Kedarnath on the anvil

The State administration will soon initiate a comprehensive and integrated garbage management plan for Kedarnath Dham. A directive in this regard was given by the chief secretary Anand Bardhan to the Rudraprayag district magistrate on Tuesday. The CS chaired a review meeting on the progress of the Kedarnath reconstruction and redevelopment and Badrinath master plan works at the State secretariat on the day.

He said that the waste management plan for the Kedarnath Dham Yatra area should include all the arrangements that can be made for the disposal of any type of waste during the Yatra. He assured that every kind of financial, technical and other support will be provided for the plan.

Bardhan also sought detailed information about the Kedarnath reconstruction works. He enquired about the physical and financial progress of each work, as well as the timeframe for completion. He directed the administration to start work on six blocks in Kedarnath Dham under the reconstruction plan without any delay. The CS directed that each project be continuously monitored to ensure completion on schedule.

The CS also inquired in detail about the progress of the Badrinath master plan phase 1 and phase 2. He enquired about the physical and financial progress of each project and directed that the work should gather momentum so that it can meet the completion deadlines. He directed that all types of content and artwork required for the project should be commissioned simultaneously. 

The CS directed the DMs of Chamoli and Rudraprayag to develop a framework for the operation and maintenance of the assets and facilities being established at Kedarnath and Badrinath Dhams. He said prior selection of companies will help in fixing responsibilities for maintenance and other matters after handover of the assets. 

It is pertinent to mention here that in recent years, Kedarnath has emerged as the most visited among the Char Dham. More than 17 lakh pilgrims have registered so far to visit this Dham with the majority of them having visited Kedarnath till July 7.
