Guru Purnima was celebrated on Wednesday at Shri Darbar Sahib with the devotees paying obeisance to Guru Ram Rai. From the early hours of the day, thousands of devotees and members of the Sangat from different parts of India and abroad thronged the shrine to seek blessings.
The head of the shrine, Mahant Devendra Das remembered Guru Ram Rai reverently and performed special prayers. In his address, he said that a Guru not merely embodies knowledge but a divine light which guides the disciples along the path of truth, selfless service, compassion and righteousness.
He further said that Guru Purnima is not merely a festival of worship but also an occasion to resolve to imbibe the ideals and the values the guru bequeathed. “Now, we need love, harmony, discipline and spiritual consciousness more than ever before, so this Guru Purnima is special,” he observed.
To mark the occasion, Kirtan and Ardas were held at the shrine in the morning and along with them, a special langar was held for thousands of devotees who thronged the shrine.
