The 15-day ‘Green Yagya’ campaign launched to mark Harela festival by GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology concluded on Friday with the vice-chancellor, Shivendra Kumar Kashyap planting a sapling in the Harela Garden inside the university premises.
On this occasion, the VC said that the ‘Green Yagya’ is not just a tree plantation campaign, but a mass movement for environmental protection, promotion of biodiversity and a secure future for future generations.
He further stated that during the fortnight, large-scale tree planting had been carried out at the university’s farm, all research centres, colleges, hostels, university parks, agricultural science centres and surrounding villages. “This will not only increase the university’s green cover but will also provide new direction for environmental protection, climate balance and conservation of natural resources,” he said, adding that these same saplings in just four years would provide shade, clean air, fruits and contribute significantly to biodiversity conservation and environmental balance.
“Trees and plants are natural shelter for countless animals and the foundation of life on Earth. Without them, a clean environment, adequate oxygen and a healthy life are unimaginable,” he said and urged the university fraternity to work to make the university the greenest and cleanest educational institution in the country.
Among those present were the chief general manager, Farms, R P Singh and the director, Communication of the university, J P Jaiswal.
