Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ravindra Jugran met secretary of higher education BVRC Purushottam on Friday and raised the issue of 85 per cent vacant teaching and non-teaching posts at MKP PG College, Dehradun. He also submitted a memorandum to the secretary on the matter.
Jugran told the secretary that before the creation of Uttarakhand, MKP PG College was counted among the top women’s colleges in North India. Graduates from the institution went on to hold prominent positions across the country and abroad, earning laurels for Uttarakhand.
He pointed out that when Uttarakhand was formed, the college had nearly 5,000 girl students enrolled. However, the number fell to just 1,500 last year. Instead of increasing, the student enrolment has dropped to one-third of its earlier strength.
According to Jugran, government neglect over the last 15 years has led to zero recruitment in the college. As a result, the situation has deteriorated sharply, with around 85 per cent of teaching and non-teaching posts currently vacant. He warned that if this continues, the women’s college could shut down within two years as the remaining staff retire. Jugran urged the secretary to begin the recruitment process for the vacant posts without delay. In response, the secretary of Higher Education assured him of a positive approach and promised to provide an update within 10 days.
