The special chair designed by a sixth-grade student at Pantnagar Campus School, Vyom Kesarwani has received a design patent from the Government of India. The school and the G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology to which the school is affiliated have hailed his innovative achievement.

The school sources said that the unique feature of this chair is that it can be reversed or adjusted in a matter of seconds to make it convenient for left-handed students. “Currently, most writing chairs available in schools and colleges are primarily designed for right-handed students. Consequently, left-handed students face difficulties in sitting and writing, which impacts their writing style and comfort,” said a teacher. Notably, Vyom’s father is also left-handed.

As the student witnessed his father’s discomfiture with his desk chair, he conceived the idea of creating a chair that would be comfortable for both left and right-handed students. “This idea later evolved into an innovative design that has now been granted a design patent,” the teacher added.
