Dehradun municipal commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey on Saturday reviewed property tax and revenue collection and directed officials to take action against major defaulters who have failed to pay dues despite repeated notices.

During a meeting at the MCD premises, Pandey directed officials to update the list of major property tax defaulters and ensure timely issuance of notices, demand letters and other legal measures against those who continue to default.

He also stressed on the need to bring newly constructed buildings,  property, commercial establishments and other taxable properties that have not yet been assessed under the  propertytax system. The officials were directed to conduct area-wise surveys and verify records to identify such properties.

Pandey further directed officials to update records where there have been changes in the area, use or other tax-related details of properties. He said that no taxable property within the municipal limits should remain outside the propertytax assessment system.

Pandey also called for ward-wise and area-wise reviews of tax demand, collection, pending dues and new taxpayers. Special verification drives were ordered in areas witnessing significant construction of new buildings and commercial establishments.

He directed officials to prepare a time-bound action plan to increase municipal revenue and regularly monitor the progress of tax recovery, action against defaulters and assessment of unassessed properties.

Pandey said that increased municipal revenue would help improve civic services, including sanitation, street lighting, roads, drains and maintenance of parks. The deputy municipal commissioner Tanveer Marwah, assistant municipal commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh, tax superintendents and tax inspectors were present at the meeting.
