The Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Uttarkashi achieved a major mountaineering feat by successfully climbing three peaks in a single expedition in Ladakh’s Nun-Kun mountain range, NIM officials informed. The NIM management congratulated the team for the achievement while the mountaineering experts said that climbing three high peaks in a limited period of time showcased the team’s technical skills, physical fitness and coordination.
The team, led by NIM principal colonel SS Rajpurohit, hoisted the tricolour on 7,135-metre-high Mount Nun on August 31. The team had earlier climbed 7,077 metre Mount Kun on August 15 and 5,908 metre Mount Delta-41 on August 26. The successful ascent of three peaks during one expedition is being seen as a significant achievement for the institute and Indian mountaineering, experts claimed.
The team faced challenges in the form of hostile weather, snow-covered slopes and glaciers among other high- altitude hardships during the expedition. The team members included Subedar Bhupinder Singh, Saurav Rautela, Sepoy Tabong Taga, Ravindra Rawat, Surya Rawat and Anshul Galta.
Colonel Rajpurohit said that the achievement was the result of the team’s hard work, discipline and coordination. “Mountaineering is not only about reaching the summit but also about showing patience, courage and teamwork,” he said, adding that
the achievement would encourage young people to take up mountaineering and adventure sports.
