Storm havoc: Uprooted trees, toppled hoardings throw Doon into disarray

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Gusty winds and heavy showers brought Dehradun to a standstill on Wednesday afternoon, toppling trees across the city and collapsing a massive supporting structure for billboards in the middle of the road on the busy Rispana Bridge . The incidents disrupted traffic at multiple locations.

One of the incidents was reported at the SP City office, where a large tree was uprooted and collapsed inside the office premises, leaving the people nearby in panic. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other teams  rushed to the spot.

One fallen tree blocked the road near the Parade Ground and another crushed several shops at the Tibetan Market, while several trees were knocked down in Yamuna Colony.

The Rispana area was also affected, where a large hoarding collapsed amid the rain and strong winds. Luckily no one was injured. Trees fell too near the Vidhan Sabha, Parade Ground and RTO office, disrupting traffic movement in some areas. Response teams are clearing fallen trees and debris while Uttarakhand braces for strong winds across all districts on Thursday, according to the Meteorological department.
