Doon’s first electric bus undertakes trial run
The State government will attempt to gradually operate electric buses from Dehradun to Mussoorie, Rishikesh and Haridwar. Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said this after flagging off the first electric bus on its trial run under the Dehradun smart city project here on Friday.
Congratulating the public on the occasion, Rawat said that this is a good start which would prove to be an important step for Uttarakhand from the environmental perspective. Stating that 30 electric buses are slated to be operated in the city under the Dehradun smart city project in this financial year, the CM said that the government will attempt to gradually operate these buses to Mussoorie, Rishikesh and Haridwar. The government of India is also attempting to take the whole nation towards electric buses by 2030, he added.
The electric bus procured under the smart city project has various features. Equipped with GPS system and three CCTV cameras, the automatic transmission air conditioned bus also has USB port in every seat, emergency button, fire fighting equipment and other features.
Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’, MLA Ganesh Joshi and Dehradun Smart City Limited chief executive officer Ashish Kumar Srivastava were also among those present on the occasion.
