Morning clashes at Singhu, Tikri said what’s in store

Protesting farmers, including women, dancing on dhols and chanting slogans, began their tractor rally from Singhu and Tikri borders. As scores of tractors entered the city border, the locals showered petals on cavalcades.

The groups of protesting farmers camping at Singhu, Tikri broke police barricades on Tuesday morning to force their way into the city, much ahead of the time they were granted permission.

Farmers also marched on foot in large numbers holding flags of different farmer unions and raising slogans Rang De Basanti. Some were seen riding motorcycles and horses. People also perched atop their tractors and sang revolutionary songs. Locals were also seen distributing food and water bottles to the protesting farmers who were part of the rally.

The group of protesters from Tikri border protest site, however, tried to deviate from the pre-agreed route to enter Delhi and rammed their tractors into barricades.

The farmers wanted to move towards Delhi however, the see saw scene was witnessed during the day as protesters moved towards Peeragarhi and police pushed them back. 

Meanwhile, groups of farmers’ protesters from Singhu border on their tractors, on foot and horses breached barricades as tractors moved in prompting the police to fire tear gas at the protesters. Some of the farmers driving cranes removed the cement barricades as some protesters on horses breached them.

At Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar on GT Road, the protesting farmers had to turn right but they kept on moving ahead. The police requested them to follow the route assigned but protestors pelted stones on security personnel. Some of the protesters moved their tractors into the prohibited route and were on course to the Ring Road as they took over both the carriageways of the GT Road.

The protesting unions have also announced a foot march to Parliament on February 1, when the annual Budget is being presented, to press for their demands, including a repeal of the three new agriculture laws.

Heavy security has been deployed in view of the “Kisan Gantantra Parade” that will move into Delhi from the Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur border points.
