MCD starts penalising locals for violating plastic ban
To restrict the use of single-use plastics in the city, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) started imposing penalties on locals violating the ban on plastics on Monday. According to sanitation inspector Pushpa Rauthan, the corporation mainly focussed on raising awareness against use of single-use plastic on Monday too and fined only about nine locals collecting about Rs 900. “We penalised those locals who were using single-use plastics to carry products like vegetables and fruits among other things,” said Rauthan.
Moreover, the officials informed that the municipal commissioner, Vinay Shankar Pandey has formed five teams to raise awareness in the five zones of the city. These teams will conduct raids on commercial establishments and plastic manufacturers besides imposing penalties on the locals using single-use plastics from this week.
