MCD steps up campaign for Swachh Survekshan 2021

In view of the approaching field survey for the Swachh Survekshan 2021, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has directed the sanitation team to step up the cleaning campaign in the city. On Wednesday, the chief municipal health officer, Dr Kailash Joshi conducted a meeting to review the preparations for the field survey which is due this month. Joshi instructed the team to pick up garbage regularly from garbage bins to prevent garbage overflowing on roadside areas. He also directed them to spray disinfectant in dustbins and drains regularly in all the wards. Since the corporation has also been receiving complaints of garbage accumulation in vacant plots, Joshi also directed the team to clean them. However, the plot owners will have to pay a penalty to the MCD for accumulated garbage which is hazardous to the environment, stated officials.

Last year, Dehradun achieved the status of ODF ++ under Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) and became the first city to achieve it in Uttarakhand. To maintain this Open Defecation Free (ODF) status, the municipal corporation installed several public toilets this financial year as this status would give the city additional 700 points in Swachh Survekshan. Joshi has instructed the sanitation team to maintain cleanliness in all the public toilets in the city to maintain the status of ODF ++. Moreover, he also directed the teams to run a campaign to promote the composting of domestic waste at the homes of locals. He also directed Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited (REEL) to pick garbage from the garbage bins on time in 69 wards. According to the officials, the service level progress in segregation, processing and disposal of the garbage in a city constitutes 40 per cent marks of total 6,000 marks of Swachh Survekshan 2021 due to which, the sanitation team was instructed to promote segregation, composting and disposal of garbage through the door to door service of the corporation. Meanwhile, the MCD has received around 2.50 lakh citizens’ feedback through the Swachhata-MoHUA app and portal. The residents can give their feedback by March 31. Since the citizen’s feedback constitutes 30 per cent of the total 6,000 marks, the MCD has instructed installation of hoardings and raising awareness among locals about the Swachh Survekshan.
