Special prayers were performed at Gangotri shrine on the on the occasion of Ganga Dussehra on Sunday. In view of Covid-19, this time only a select few priests were able to attend the event.
The idol of goddess Ganga at the sanctum sanctorum of Gangotri Dham was offered special prayers at Brahma Muhurt. This was followed by the recitation of Ganga Sahastranama, Ganga Lahari, Ganga Sutra and a Havan for the welfare of the world. The goddess was offered kheer, halwa, Kesari rice and Puri and her Doli Yatra was also taken out. The idols of king Bhagirath and Ganga were placed in the Doli (palanquin) which was then brought from the main temple to the main stream of the Ganga where a special Pooja was performed.
