The Dehradun municipal commissioner Abhishek Ruhela has asked Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) to provide assistance to the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) in the installation of street lights across the city. Several locals and councillors have complained to the senior officials of the corporation about the delay in the installation of LED street lights and unrepaired lights for months.
Some councillors had also recently protested in the EESL company outsourced by MCD for lights repairing and installation works. Ruhela said that according to the company, the installation and repairing work is being hindered in many areas due to many issues like wiring issues in the electric poles, damage caused to street lights in the poles due to sudden high voltages and no shifting of street lights when poles are shifted to the new area. The company officials also said that timers of the street lights also get damaged too.
Considering these issues, Ruhela said, he held a meeting with the officials of UPCL on Friday to discuss the matter. He said that he has asked the officials for their corporation in the ongoing installation work of street lights. They have ensured us to provide all the help possible in the required wards, added Ruhela. He said that the corporation has targeted to install maximum number of street lights across the city by the end of this year.
