Additional municipal commissioner Praveen Kumar said that the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has stepped up preparations for Swachh Survekshan 2026, with a strong focus on improving sanitation and boosting citizen participation ahead of the central team’s inspection.
With the team expected to visit the city soon for ground assessment, the civic body has accelerated work across sectors. The aim this year is to improve Dehradun’s overall ranking by strengthening systems already in place and addressing gaps flagged in past surveys.
The theme for this year’s survey is “Nayi Pahal: Badhein Haath, Karein Safai Saath”. A total of 12,500 marks have been allocated, of which 1,000 marks are linked directly to citizen feedback, making public participation a key component.
Over the past year, the corporation has expanded door-to-door waste collection, intensified campaigns around segregation of wet and dry waste and strengthened Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) and waste processing units. Efforts to curb open dumping have also been stepped up, along with stricter monitoring of plastic waste and single-use plastic. Ward-level inspections have been introduced and a dedicated task force has been set up to monitor sanitation and improve performance.
Citizen feedback is being prioritised this time through a structured outreach plan. QR codes linked to the Swachh Bharat Mission portal are being circulated widely and will be displayed at prominent public locations across the city.
Kumar said that door-to-door campaigns will soon begin to encourage residents to participate. Awareness drives are also planned in markets, schools and institutions to ensure wider engagement.
Residents can submit their feedback by visiting the Swachh Bharat Mission website, scanning the QR code available on the homepage and filling out the survey.
Increasing public participation will be crucial in shaping the city’s performance, as preparations continue in the run-up to the national cleanliness survey, he added. In 2025, the MCD had secured 62nd position in the Swachh Survekshan survey.
