The results of the assembly elections of Uttarakhand declared on Thursday show that daughters of two senior most leaders of the state got a sweet revenge for the defeat their illustrious fathers had suffered in the elections of the past.
In Haridwar Rural constituency Anupama Rawat of Congress defeated BJP candidate and cabinet minister Swami Yatishwaranand avenging the defeat of her father Harish Rawat in the year 2017. Similarly in Kotdwar assembly constituency BJP candidate Ritu Khanduri salvaged family pride by defeating Congress candidate Surendra Singh Negi, who had defeated her father Major General (retd) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri in the year 2012.
In Haridwar rural Anupama defeated Yatishwaranand by a margin of 4,472 while Ritu defeated Negi by a margin of more than 3,500 votes in Kotdwar.
In the year 2012 the BJP contested the assembly elections under the leadership of the then CM Major Gen (retd) B C Khanduri with ‘Khanduri Hai Zaroori’ slogan. He contested from Kotdwar assembly but the people of Kotdwar served a major jolt to BJP and Khanduri was forced to bite dust in the contest which saw Surendra Singh Negi of Congress proving to be a giant killer. Negi had defeated Khanduri by a margin of 4,623 votes. In the year 2017 , BJP’s Yatishwaranand had trounced the then CM Harish Rawat by a margin of 12,278 votes in Haridwar rural.
