E-waste mobile app likely to be launched in May

Thursday, 14 April 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

Various decisions were taken regarding the management of electronic waste in Dehradun and Rudraprayag. These decisions were taken in a project review meeting held at the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) here on Wednesday. The UCOST director general Rajendra Dobhal presided over the meeting which was held to discuss the progress in the project carried out by Society of Pollution and Environment Conservation Scientists (SPECS) secretary Brij Mohan Sharma and Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya assistant professor Shewtank Arya. It was stated that a mobile phone application prepared for this purpose may be launched in the first week of May. Arya and his team member Amrish made a detailed presentation on the progress of e-waste mobile app for selling, buying and repairing of electronic waste products.

Various decisions were also taken in the meeting. It was decided that the format of registration for the seller should be simple and exclude the personal information like profile picture and address. Human resources will be trained on the working mechanism of this mobile app. All the information of the seller and buyer in the app will be handled by a person (super admin). It is mandatory to have an option in the app through which offline delivery of e-waste is facilitated. There must also be a ‘Repair’ option in the app. E-waste repairing centres will also be added to the app. Additionally, there must be a link between buyers and e-waste collection centres through offline mode. It was decided that the copyright of all app management tools should be done by Gurukul Kangiri. A national level conference will also be held at UCOST on e-waste minimisation and management. Further, UCOST, SPECS and Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya team members will jointly visit Rudraprayag in the last week of April to conduct a field test of the beta-version of the mobile app.
