Features of ARIES telescopes on exhibit at IAU meet in Busan

The specialty of the optical and liquid mirror telescopes of the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observation Sciences (ARIES) here are being exhibited at the 31st general assembly of the International Astronomical Union which was inaugurated at Busan in South Korea on Monday. ARIES director Deepankar Banerjee is representing the institute. ARIES scientist Virendra Yadav informed that a separate booth has been set up at the event in Busan to display the features of the ARIES 3.6 meters optical telescope and four-meter liquor mirror telescope among other aspects of India’s works in astronomy. He said that both these telescopes hold special significance for the global community and also display the achievements of India in the field of astronomy. A number of noted astronomers and scientists appreciated India’s works in the field on the first day of the general assembly. Yadav said that the event is Busan is the biggest assembly of astronomers from across the world and is held once every three years. Representatives from India have set up a booth under the banner of the Astronomical Society of India at the event to exhibit the achievements of various astronomical institutions of the nation.
