Forest department to improve Nainital’s trekking routes

To promote trekking tourism in Nainital, the Forest department has begun preparations to develop major trekking routes. Under the plan, trekking routes will be repaired and at the same time, resting facilities at viewpoints will be enhanced. Besides, there is a plan to provide information on wildlife and flora to tourists to facilitate a better experience with nature.

Importantly, the major trekking routes to be developed by the Forest department include the Kilbury-Pangot/Tanki-Naina Peak/Kilbury-Naina Peak/Bara Patthar-Tiffin Top/Sherwood-Tiffin Top /Ayarpatta-Tiffin Top and Camel’s Back routes. All these routes are popular with tourists for their natural beauty, adorned as they are with magnificent views of the Himalayas and biodiversity.

Under the plan, information boards will be installed along the trekking routes, providing information about the wildlife, birds, and flora found in the area.

Arrangements for seating and resting for tourists will also be developed at key viewpoints, said the forest range officer of the Nainital Forest Division,
Lalit Mohan Karki. “Several trekking routes have been damaged in several places and will be repaired soon,” he said and added that the aim is to provide tourists with a safe and improved trekking experience, which will also promote adventure and nature tourism in Nainital.

He further said that the development of trekking routes will attract tourists to the city’s traditional destinations as well as rural areas, promoting local employment and tourism activities.
