The Uttarakhand government would purchase the now defunct plant of the Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT) at Ranibagh in Nainital district. CM said that the cabinet committee on economic affairs had given its approval to close down the HMT Ranibagh plant after it incurred regular losses. The plant is proposed to be transferred to the Uttarakhand government on ‘As is where is’ basis.
Discussion on the transfer of HMT plant and land was held between the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the Union minister for heavy industries Mahendra Nath Pandey in New Delhi on Thursday. In the meeting Dhami requested the union minister to give necessary directives to the officers concerned for transfer of HMT, Ranibagh to Uttarakhand. He said that new industrial units would be set up in the land of HMT Ranibagh which would create employment opportunities in the area.
