Adequate storage facility in the State, assures Centre

The Central government has clarified that there is adequate arrangement for foodgrain storage in Uttarakhand in case of an emergency situation.
In response to a question asked by the Bharatiya Janata Party State president and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt in the parliament, the Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution minister of State Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya informed that the government regularly monitors storage and based on this the Food Corporation of India and Central Warehousing Corporation create further facilities or rent the same.
At present, the warehousing facilities in Uttarakhand including 0.53 lakh tonnes capacity godowns owned by the State government in mountainous areas, 1.52 lakh tonne capacity godowns in non-mountainous regions, 0.015 lakh tonnes capacity FCI godowns in mountainous areas and 2.039 lakh tonne capacity storage in non-mountainous regions. At present the CWC also has seven godowns with a capacity of 95,698 tonnes in the State, the minister informed. It is pertinent to mention here that though there is a shortage of commercial LPG cylinders in the State due to the situation in Iran, there is adequate stock of both domestic LPG cylinders and foodgrains in the State.
Responding to a question seeking information about policies regarding ragging in Ayush Medical College, the Ayush minister of State Prataprao Jadhav informed that a total of five cases of ragging had been reported in government Ayush Medical Colleges across the country during the current year. The government has made various provisions to stop ragging in the Ayush colleges. The relevant authorities issue strict instructions from time to time to strengthen anti-ragging efforts in all such colleges. In addition to this, the institutions are regularly directed regarding the guidelines issued by University Grants Commission regarding basic solutions, consultation and monitoring solutions to prevent ragging, the minister added.
