Aspects related to the development, cleanliness and conservation of the two rivers were discussed in the meeting.

NMCG director Dhiraj Joshi, additional director Shiv Pratap Raghuvanshi and other officials inspected various sites along the course of the Rispana and Bindal in the provisional State capital Dehradun. The team also checked the banks of the rivers, littering and other aspects. The team found gaps in some places, regarding which specific instructions were issued to officials concerned for swift redressal.

The Rispana and Bindal rivers have elicited more attention in recent years due to the encroachments along and on the riverbeds and the rivers becoming seasonal with effluent making comprising the bulk of the ‘rivers’ during most part of the year, barring the monsoon. The State government’s elevated road project has heightened public discourse on the condition of these rivers and the actions taken by the government to revive the rivers as claimed earlier.
