In the aftermath of the death of a retired brigadier in firing in the Johri area which triggered a shock wave across the city, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police (SSP) Pramendra Singh Dobal introduced a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for PG and hostel operators on Tuesday. Explaining the SOP to officers, including senior superintendent (SPs) and circle officers (COs), at SSP office, he stressed that they must be proactive in curbing crimes.

Notably, the retired brigadier Mukesh Joshi-out on morning walk-was killed by stray bullet while two groups clashed on Monday morning. The murder spree dogging Dehradun with more than half a dozen deaths reported so far this year sparked fierce criticism of police with citizens feeling insecure.

During the meeting, the SSP directed the police to ensure complete verification of all students living in PGs and hostels. He said that all details of students, including their ID, address and phone numbers, must be properly recorded and stored digitally. Dobal further said that no pubs and bars will be allowed to operate after 11 PM. If any establishment is found open beyond the permitted time, strict action will be taken against the owner.

He further informed that a proper mechanism has been set up to monitor the activities of pubs, bars and restaurants across the city to ensure rules are being followed. “We are working hard to change the perception of the people about police and to make them feel safe,” the SSP said.
