CM gets tough on law & order situation, orders campaign against criminals

Taking a stern note of the increasing cases of road rage and hooliganism in provisional State capital Dehradun, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has warned the officers that any laxity in implementing law will not be tolerated. Expressing his deep displeasure on at the Johri incident in which a retired brigadier was shot dead by a stray bullet fired by miscreants in the Rajpur Road police station area on Monday, he ordered suspension of assistant excise inspector (Excise) Soban Singh and in-charge of Kuthal Gate police post sub-inspector Ashok Kumar. He also directed the director general of police to undertake an extensive campaign against criminal elements in the State. The CM said that the police should take immediate action against road rage, firing and late night illegal activities in the State.
On Tuesday, chief secretary Anand Bardhan held a meeting with senior officials of Home and Police departments at his office in which he reviewed law and order situation in the State. Expressing displeasure over the increasing incidents of road rage and rioting, the CS directed that surveillance be increased to prevent such incidents and that strict action be taken against rioters.
Bardhan directed that police patrolling should be increased in Dehradun city and its surrounding areas. He instructed the Dehradun senior superintendent of police to increase patrols during peak hours and during night.
The CS also directed that strict enforcement of the closing times for bars and restaurants should be done. On a stern note, he said that Dehradun should not be allowed to become a haven for all night parties and rioters during the weekends. Strict action should be taken against rioters and bar owners should be made aware of this and their timely closure should be enforced, he said.
Bardhan added that homestays operating in areas surrounding the city also need to be monitored.
The DGP Deepam Seth, Home secretary Shailesh Bagauli, Garhwal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, Garhwal IG Rajiv Swaroop, district magistrate Savin Bansal and SSP Parmendra Singh Dobal attended the meeting.
