Ahead of Holi: Food safety team inspects sweet shops, dairies & others

Ahead of the Holi festival, a surprise inspection of some sweet shops, dairies and groceries was conducted in Kashipur and Pantnagar by a team led by a senior food safety officer, Kashipur, Aparna Sah and another senior officer, Asha Arya.  The department sources said that the inspection had been conducted under the directive of the State Health and Food Safety commissioner and the assistant commissioner, Udham Singh Nagar, to ensure availability of safe and quality food, confectionary and dairy items to the people during the Holi festivities.

During the inspection, the team of Food Safety and Drug Administration, Udham Singh Nagar collected samples of mawa, bhujia namkeen, protein powder and arhar dal among others.  These samples would be sent for testing to the State Food and Drug Laboratory in Rudrapur, the officers said. Future action will be taken if the samples are found substandard.

During the inspection, the owners of the food business establishments, including manufacturing units, have been asked to comply strictly with the food safety standards as laid down by the department or else face legal actions.
