Centre recommends World Bank to fund Rs 680 cr for Uttarakhand govt project

The Union government has recommended to the World Bank to consider the project ‘Strengthening Public Financial Management for Improved Service Delivery in Uttarakhand’. The project aims to improve financial transparency, accountability and service delivery in the State.

The recommendation to the World Bank has been made by the department of Economic Affairs (FB Division) of the ministry of Finance, Government of India. Under the project, the Uttarakhand government has proposed a financial assistance of approximately Rs 680 crore (US dollar 80 million) from the World Bank. The ministry of Finance has formally forwarded this proposal to the officiating country director World Bank, India office, Paul Prusi. 

Expressing happiness, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the World Bank assistance will make the state’s financial systems digital, robust, and results-oriented. He said that the State government is constantly striving to ensure that every single rupee is spent with transparency and accountability in the public interest.  “This is a major recognition of Uttarakhand’s financial reform and good governance efforts. The project will bring unprecedented improvement in fiscal discipline, financial data transparency, and quality of service delivery system in the State,’’ he said.

 As per the officers of the Finance department of the State, the proposed project will provide a new direction to the State’s e-governance and digital public finance management. It will strengthen financial discipline, real-time monitoring, and reporting systems across every department in the State.
