Cheating scandal raises question on UVSP’s arrangements for Board exams

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The arrest of eight impersonators in Haridwar on Tuesday during the Class X Uttarakhand Board examination conducted by the Uttarakhand Vidyalaya Shiksha Parishad (UVSP) has raised concerns and put a question mark on the arrangements made by the UVSP and the administration for the important examinations.

The reports suggest that these impersonators had tampered with their admit cards and appeared for the Hindi exam at Government Inter College, Saleempur Mahdood, Haridwar centre. Among the impersonators, four were female. The police have registered a case against both the eight impersonators and the eight original candidates involved. The Hindi examination of the UVSP was scheduled to start at 10:30 am on Tuesday and officials on duty detected the impersonation while verifying the admit cards.

In response to the situation, UVSP Secretary Vinod Simalti acknowledged that the issue of cheating is indeed a significant concern. He said that the officials at the centre had checked the admit cards of the impersonators, and upon inspection, the details did not match the information provided by the UVSP. Consequently, the police took immediate action against the impersonators. Simalti said that while the police have acted, further action from UVSP is still pending. They have asked the Haridwar Chief Education Officer (CEO) to submit a report on the matter as soon as possible, after which they will determine the next steps.

Simalti also emphasised that to prevent such practices in the future, the CEOs of all districts, along with all relevant officials related to the examination, have been directed to be vigilant in similar matters during upcoming exams. He stated that strict action should be taken immediately against any candidate found cheating.

Notably, a total of 216,099 candidates are participating in the Class X and XII UVSP board examinations this year, which are being held across 1,261 examination centres, comprising 50 single centres and 1,211 mixed centres.
