The district magistrate Savin Bansal has instructed the officials concerned to ensure that the construction of the Solid Waste Management Plant in Lalpani area of Rishikesh is completed strictly according to the prescribed standards while conducting an on-site inspection of the under construction plant on Monday.
DM said that a solid waste processing plant, capable of handling 240 metric tons per day, is being funded by the Municipal Corporation of Rishikesh (MCR) for Rs 23.15 crore. “While the work was scheduled to be completed by December 2025, only 60 per cent of the work has been completed thus far,” he noted. He pulled up the contractor and the MCR officials concerned for the tardy pace of the project execution.
He asked for a comprehensive report detailing the time and timeline of the contract along with reporting the issues encountered during the construction of the plant. He further pointed out that the required LTP machines have not yet been installed at the site and directed the municipal commissioner to prioritise and expedite their installation.
Bansal stressed that this facility would be crucial for the scientific disposal of solid waste in the area, enhancing sanitation efforts and promoting environmental protection.
During the inspection, the DM also inquired about the machinery being installed at the plant, the waste separation system, leachate treatment processes and future operational plans. “This plant must become operational at the earliest,” he declared.
