Congress alleges kidnapping of its supporters in Nainital Panchayat polls

The Congress has alleged major irregularities and blatant misuse of the government machinery by the State government in the district Panchayat elections on Thursday.

The Congress leaders including leader of opposition in Vidhan Sabha Yashpal Arya, Haldwani MLA Sumit Hridayesh and former MLA Sanjiv Arya alleged that some of the members of the Nainital district Panchayat were kidnapped in broad day light in presence of police when they were going to cast their vote.

 The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president, Karan Mahara said that the BJP government resorted to robbery of votes in the Panchayat elections. He said that the goons of BJP supported by the Police manhandled the LoP Yashpal Arya, the deputy leader of Congress legislator Party Bhuwan Kapdi, Haldwani MLA Sumit Hridayesh and former MLA Sanjiv Arya in Nainital and kidnapped some of the district Panchayat members supporting the Congress candidate Pushpa Negi.

The PCC senior vice president Dhirendra Pratap alleged that in Almora, the BJP used money and muscle power to win the election.

 The PCC media in-charge Rajiv Mehrishi said that the senior leaders of the Congress were manhandled in Nainital and members were kidnapped.

 Former MLA of Kedarnath Manoj Rawat alleged that in Rudraprayag, the authorities working hand in glove with the ruling BJP cancelled the vote of one Congress member to favour the BJP candidate. 

 The PCC chief spokesperson Garima Dasauni said that despite all odds the Congress candidate registered victory on the coveted post of president of district Panchayat in Dehradun.
