PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
Alleging irregularities in DAV PG College students’ union elections, the workers of the National Students Union of India, Youth Congress and Congress met senior superintendent of police Dehradun Pramendra Dobhal on Friday.
According to activists, through this meeting, they registered their protest in a democratic and sarcastic manner. They alleged that the police administration was not impartial during DAV PG College students’ union elections and that, under pressure from the government, action was taken against NSUI workers and an attempt was made to influence the election process.
They further alleged that under pressure from the BJP government, administration and police interfered in the election process and attempted to benefit ABVP. They said students’ union elections are a matter of students’ democratic rights and that they will not tolerate any form of political interference.
NSUI and Congress leaders said they believe in democracy and will not compromise fairness, transparency, or the independence of students’ union elections. Impartial investigation into alleged irregularities during elections and the administrative role must be conducted to restore student confidence in the democratic system.
The student leaders clarified that this fight is not against any individual or organisation, but for democratic rights of students, fair elections, and justice. If any irregularities occurred at any level in the election process, independent and impartial investigation should be conducted to hold culprits accountable. The workers said their struggle to protect students’ interests and democratic rights will continue in a peaceful and democratic manner.
State secretary Vineet Prasad Bhatt, District president Youth Congress Tejasvi Rana and others were present.
